Thematically my practice is shaped by the physical and cultural landscape I find myself. Exploring themes of identity and place through eating cultures, focusing on narratives and rituals associated with place. I feel that ceramics and food forge connection, cohesiveness and symbolise the intrinsically communal and collaborative aspects of both practices.

I love working with many different mediums. I am inspired by the natural world around me. My work includes textiles, embroidery, patchwork, needle felting, painting and resin. I think everyday items should look lovely too, so as well as wall art, I make journal covers, patchwork bags, jewellery and other small gifts.

I live on a working farm that naturally surrounds me in inspiration for my artwork. I specialize in hand thrown stoneware pottery. I mainly make domestic ware such as mugs, jugs, etc. I love throwing large bowls and decorative pieces. I primarily use crystalline glazes, but also enjoy experimenting with layering reactive glazes. The pottery is located in the 18th century stone byre by the white cottage.

My background is in illustration, sculpture, and 3D design. My drawings are inspired by forms in space, and my paintings by light and colour, sometimes drawing on memories of people from my past. You will find my artwork varied with examples of sculpture, modelling, and fine art.

Both my photography and artwork focus on pets, animals, wildlife and nature, including landscapes and nightscapes. I look forward to welcoming you to my new studio.

Mhairi McBeath creates contemporary and joyful ceramic homewares by blending traditional techniques with modern technology. Prior to creating her work, Mhairi sketches out patterns and ideas before throwing the majority of her work on a pottery wheel in her studio and decorating each piece with a variety of colourful glazes and 3D printed stamps.
